Legacy is a mid-size car introduced by the Japanese manufacturer Subaru in February 1989 as a larger, upscale companion to the company's Leone/Loyale. The Legacy was launched in the USA for model year 1990. The Legacy was introduced with a newly developed boxer engine layout, called the EJ series, to replace the aging EA series; the new EJ series has either SOHC/DOHC architecture and pent-roof cylinder firing chambers. The standard equipped symmetrical all-wheel drive system is currently unique to the Legacy in this class size of vehicle.
